Patients, carers and colleagues across Kent and Medway will have greater access to pastoral, spiritual and religious support as Reverend Shavaun Shodeinde and Melissa Jack join Kent and Medway Mental Health NHS Trust’s chaplaincy team.
Chaplains play an important role in supporting the wellbeing of patients, carers and colleagues, providing compassionate care that goes beyond clinical treatment.
Available to people of all faiths and beliefs, including those with no religious affiliation, the team offers a safe space for reflection, conversation and support during difficult times.
Reverend Shavaun said: “I’m enjoying getting to know the life of the trust, including the people, stories, wards, therapeutic timetables, quiet moments and unexpected conversations.
“In mental health chaplaincy, I value being alongside patients and offering support in a way that feels right for them. I’m looking forward to building good connections across the wards and wider teams.”

While they mainly work with inpatients and ward teams, our chaplains also provide information, guidance and signposting to community service users and carers who may benefit from additional support.
Melissa shared: “Chaplains accompany people through many different stages and experiences of life. We’re here for patients, staff, and carers, and we work without an agenda. Whoever you are, we are here for you.”

Our Pastoral, Spiritual and Religious Care team helps create a sense of compassion, connection and belonging across our services, supporting the trust’s commitment to holistic person-centred care.
