Kent and Medway Mental Health NHS Trust has introduced a new accessibility toolbar to make its online information easier to read, translate and navigate for patients, carers and families across Kent and Medway.

The new ‘Recite Me’ toolbar is now live on the trust’s website and offers features including screen reading, text to speech, translation into more than 100 languages, adjustable colours and fonts, a reading ruler, and the ability to change text size and layout.

The aim is to ensure everyone including people with visual impairments, dyslexia, English as a second language, or those who simply prefer information presented differently can access the support they need without barriers.

The move forms part of the trust’s wider commitment to making its services more inclusive and improving the experience of people seeking help with their mental health.

Sheila Stenson, Chief Executive of Kent and Medway Mental Health NHS Trust said: “This is an important step in making sure our information is accessible to everyone who needs it. People come to us at some of the most difficult moments in their lives, and they should never struggle to understand or navigate the information we provide.

“The ‘Recite Me’ toolbar helps us remove barriers and ensure our services are fair, inclusive and easier for people to use. It’s a simple tool that will make a big difference to many of the communities we serve.”

The toolbar is available on every page of the trust’s website and can be opened with a single click. The introduction follows feedback from patients and carers who said they wanted clearer, more flexible options when accessing digital information about mental health support.

The change is part of ongoing work at the trust to improve access to services and ensure people can find the right support in a way that works for them.
