Kent and Medway Mental Health NHS Trust has launched a new festive wellbeing prevention campaign to support people across Kent and Medway through the festive season. While this time of year can be fun and happy, it can also feel busy, stressful and hard for many people.
The campaign, Coping with the festive season, shares simple advice and reassurance around common worries people may face in December. These include:
• Worries about money
• Pressure to drink alcohol
• Concerns about food or body image
• Feelings of loneliness
• Difficult relationships
The campaign reminds people that if they find this time of year difficult, that is okay. It encourages people to talk to someone they trust and take small steps to look after their wellbeing. Simple actions promoted through the campaign include:
• Resting when needed
• Not putting too much pressure on yourself
• Spending only what you can afford
• Saying no without guilt
• Being kind to yourself
The campaign also highlights the importance of looking out for others. A simple message, call, or listening without trying to fix everything can make a real difference to someone who may be struggling.
Andy Cruickshank, Chief Nurse at Kent and Medway Mental Health NHS Trust said:
“The festive season can be difficult for many people, even if it does not look that way on the outside. It’s important to know that you don’t have to face challenges on your own. Professional help is available across Kent and Medway, and reaching out early can make a real difference. This campaign is about kindness, reassurance, and making support visible to everyone who may need it.”
The campaign will run throughout December with themed wellbeing messages shared across social media. A special message will also be shared on Christmas Day to remind people that care and compassion still matter at this time of year and support is available.
